ARLINGTON, MA — A New Hampshire man was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly impersonating an FBI officer and trying to enter a home on Lee Terrace in Arlington, according to police.

"This guy had all the equipment of a modern day police officer including a loaded handgun," Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan said at a press conference Thursday."We're going to work with our federal partners to conduct an investigation to determine what his motives are."

At 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to Lee Terrace on a report of a suspicious person who attempted to enter a house. Officers received a description of the suspect while en route to the scene, and identified LeBlanc at the bus stop where they made the arrest.

Ryan told reporters that the man was allegedly wearing an FBI baseball cap and had FBI literature in a black bag containing other contraband, and he engaged a homeowner about the whereabouts about a fugitive wanted by the FBI, which was not true. The woman who answered the door summoned her husband and the two were able to send the man away.

"When the victim realized that something wasn't right here, they did the right thing here and called the real police," Ryan told reporters.

During the investigation, officers located a stun gun and a loaded .38 caliber hand gun. Police also located the black FBI hat, knife, black leather gloves, rope, duct tape, a ski mask and copies of the FBI flyer given to the residents at Lee Terrace.

Ryan added that the victim did not know the suspect, but that the suspect may have known the victim.

"We don't know his motives, but given the contents of his black bag, we're very concerned and we're taking this matter very seriously," Ryan said.
