Food News: Milk Street's Chris Kimball To Come To Arlington
It's a food lover's dream.
ARLINGTON, MA — Chris Kimball of Milk Street is going on tour, and he's kicking it off at the Arlington Regent. If you don't immediately recognize Kimball's name, you might recognize his bow tie and foodie advise from his former life as an executive at America's Test Kitchen, where he's doled out advise to wayward and interested food lovers near and far for years.
Since his split from America's Test Kitchen, he's been cooking up a storm over in Boston at Milk Street, starting a new magazine, a new radio show, a new public TV show, a cooking school and now he's taking it on the road.
Audience members at each of the stops can expect to participate in a taste-test, and selected attendees will be invited to come up on stage for cooking competitions, quizzes, and tastings.

Members of the audience will have the chance to ask Kimball questions, live on stage, and, for premium ticket holders, meet Kimball after the event at a private book signing.
Kimball was kind enough to take a moment to answer some questions Patch had for him over email. Here's what he said:
PATCH: Hi Chris, seems like you've been busy over at Milk Street this past year setting up your new magazine, radio show, public TV show, cooking school ... and now you're taking it all across the country? Is this your first tour with Milk Street?
CPK: Yes this is the first tour after Milk Street was fully launched with the magazine, cookbook, TV show, radio show etc.
PATCH: And Arlington is the first stop? Why Arlington?
CPK: I have done tours for a few years now and I find that smaller, more intimate venues are best. I love to talk back and forth with the audience and we often have folks come up on stage. This makes for a more personal, more enjoyable evening.
PATCH I know you're all about making food yourself, but what are some of your favorite places to eat in Arlington?
CPK: Everyone thinks that I eat out a lot! I do when I am on the road but my wife and I tend to cook at home almost every night. We have so many Milk Street recipes that we want to test at home before they are published that eating out is a luxury.
PATCH: What's your favorite part of your live show that you have lined up for folks?
We do a tasting in which everyone in the audience participates. That's always fun because I know exactly what is going to happen every time we do it. I also love the bits when audience members get to come up on stage and do tastings, cook, or compete in quizzes.
PATCH:: What do you hope people take away from the live show?
That all home cooks have a great deal in common and that we all make silly mistakes in the kitchen. Cooking is like a jam session; it's not the philharmonic orchestra!
Where:
The Regent Theatre, 7 Medford Street.
When:
Sept. 18, 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are going for between $45 and $95
