Mugging In Arlington? Two Things Missing, Say Police

If you witness a possible mugging, but no victim comes forward, is it still a mugging?

ARLINGTON, MA — Around 7:30 p.m. a Thorndike Street resident and his friends were outside when they heard a loud sound. When they turned to see what the slapping sound was, they saw three men. Two seemed to be mugging a third and ran off with the third man's shoes and backpack, police said citing a report.

The Thorndike resident and his friends followed the two men who took off running and then saw them on their bikes a little while before calling police. They described the two possible assailants as two men about 5'6 to 5'10, both black and both wearing dark clothing. One had short hair, the other had hair pulled up in a bun. That man had very white shoes, according to police. The third, the man who appeared to have his back pack and shoes taken from him, was a white man in his 20s with brown hair, and standing about 6 ft. tall.

Police said the Thorndike resident, a 10-year-old, and his friends followed the two men a bit and saw them take off on bikes toward Alewife. The 10-year-old alerted his father and the two reported the incident, according to police.
