New Faces Pull Papers For Office In Arlington

ARLINGTON, MA — Seventeen candidates have taken out papers for major offices on the April 4 Town Election ballot. In the race for Select Board, only Chair Diane McMahon has had her papers certified. Meanwhile four newcomers – Lenard Diggins, of Windsor Street, Sean Harrington, of Lafayette Street, Joseph Curran, of Hodge Road and Michaiah Healy, of Howard Street – have taken out papers. Voters will elect two Select Board members for three-year terms.

Incumbent School Committee members Bill Hayner and Paul Schlichtman are running for re-election and are certified on the ballot. Newcomer Elizabeth Exton, a Washington Street resident and kindergarten teacher in Brookline, had her papers certified as well. Overlook Road resident pulled papers for School Committee Jan. 29.

Voters will send three candidates to the School Committee for three-year terms.

Incumbent assessor Mary Winstanley O'Connor will be on the ballot. Robin Hood Road resident Errol Tashjian took out papers Jan. 28.

Three candidates for Town Clerk are certified – Janice Weber, of Crescent Hill Avenue, Patti Sawtelle, of College Avenue and Juliana Brazile, of Coolidge Road. All are newcomers; Town Clerk Stephanie Lucarelli has been on leave since August after filing Town Meeting articles two months late.

Incumbent Housing Authority member Joseph Daly was pulled papers for re-election. Lennon Road resident Jordan Weinstein and Mystic Lake Drive resident Jo Anne Preston have also taken out papers. Voters will select one candidate for a five-year seat.
