Dr. Marjorie C. Clos, 88, of Arlington, passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home in Cambridge with her loving family by her side.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 21, 1926, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Walter A. Balling and Irene (Meyer) Balling. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Jean, Niels and Jan.

Marjorie received her early education in the Louisville public schools, graduating from J.M. Atherton High School for Girls, class of 1944. She went to University of Louisville for her undergraduate education as a pre-medicine major. She later attended University of Minnesota earning a master’s degree in public health. After working for several years, she returned to school, receiving a Ph.D. in community psychology at Southern Illinois University in 1963. She practiced as a clinical psychologist for more than 45 years in several states, including Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas and Massachusetts.
Among her many interests, Marjorie loved crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, gardening, travel, opera, ballet and most of all spending time with her family and many lifelong friends. She was well known for being a consummate hostess at her many annual Kentucky Derby, Halloween and Christmas parties. She was a passionate advocate for our troops, giving many volunteer hours to the USO during WWII and recently on behalf of disabled veterans.

Marjorie was the beloved mother of Laura Clos and her husband David Fritchey of Arlington and Carla Clos and her husband Thomas Jarosch of East Lansing, Michigan. She was a devoted and doting grandmother to Alex Clos of Arlington.
