Boston Man Arrested for Assault and Battery After Incident in East Arlington

Police responded to the area of Herbert Road and Thorndike Street at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a possible kidnapping.

Witnesses said a man and woman had been fighting in the street, and that when the man took off in a blue Ford Explorer, the woman screamed, “He’s got my baby!” and chased after the SUV. The man then came back, and the woman got in the vehicle, according to witnesses.

The vehicle was eventually stopped on Route 16 in Cambridge. There, the woman told police that she screamed about her baby to “amp up the drama,” and that the dispute had actually been over her wallet. The woman's 11-month-old child was in the SUV’s backseat, police said.

As a result of the witness accounts, Shawn Downey, 29, of Boston, was arrested by Cambridge Police for assault and battery. He was then immediately transferred into the custody of Arlington Police.

Violin Stolen

At about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, an Arlington resident reported that his daughter’s violin, valued at $790, had been stolen from .
