Police Log: Police Chase, Car Vandalized, Bike Lights Stolen

10:50 a.m. Car Chase Down Mass Ave

An officer was checking traffic with a speed radar on Massachusetts Avenue when he spotted an Audi clocking more than 40 miles per hour.

The officer turned on his emergency lights and followed the car, which failed to stop, according to the police report. At one point, the car slowed down to 25 mph and pulled over to the right. But, police say, the pursuit continued for nearly half a mile, nearing Franklin Street.

It was then that a driver pulled his pickup truck in front of the suspect car, forcing it to stop near the 400 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

A police officer asked the driver to turn off his car and hand over the keys, which he did. When asked, the man said he “didn’t hear” the police, according to the report.

Police noted he had just received his driver’s license in December. The man said he had lived in the United States for three years.

The man was cited for failure to stop for police and speeding.

5:12 pm. Another Car Vandalized in Same Area

A Margaret Street resident reported someone vandalized her car while she was traveling. The victim’s 2010 Toyota Prius had both windshield wiper arms bent and twisted. The rear wiper had damage to its base.

Police noted this is not the first time a Margaret Street has this problem. On Jan. 13, the neighbor across from Monday’s victim had similar damage done to his car.

The addresses are across from each other and the closest homes to the entrance of the parking lot.

The victim also reported finding empty beer cans in his yard and a hammock stand tipped over. 

1 p.m. Thief Steals Bike Lights

A Massachusetts Avenue resident told police someone entered her basement storage unit. The victim reported that a battery-operated LED headlight and a taillight was stolen from her bicycle.

Police noted there was an unused and open locker behind the one with the bicycle. The thief appears to have removed metal staples to peel back the fence of the locker, gaining access to the victim’s unit.

The victim said the items were worth about $35.

The property’s building superintendent told police someone vandalized the locker used to access the victim’s unit.

Wednesday, Feb. 1

4:45 p.m. Car Broken Into, Nothing Missing

An officer was called to Oxford Street for a report of a car break-in. The victim said someone entered her unlocked car while it was parked in the driveway, adding nothing was missing.
