Police Log: Speeding Elderly Woman Causes Crash
A car accident caused by excessive speed and an assault on a child are on Saturday's log.
July 29, 9:30 a.m.
Police were called to Park Ave. for an accident involving more than one car. Upon arrival, one of the officers observed one of the operators in the middle of the intersection with front-end damage and deployed airbags.
After talking to the 88-year-old driver, she told them she was coming down Park Ave. and lost control, spinning around and hitting a car traveling in the opposite direction. The woman in the other car was uninjured and neither of her children were injured. Witnesses said the car was traveling at "possibly highway speed" and spun 6-8 times.

The 88-year-old Belmont resident was transported to Lahey Clinic and the matter remains under investigation. She was cited for multiple infractions, including high speed and failure to keep within marked lanes. Police also contacted the Registry of Motor Vehicles and notified them.

Officers were called to Waldo Road in East Arlington. They spoke to a 13-year-old male who said he was assaulted by 22-year-old cousin while he was attempting to discipline him. He claimed that his cousin jumped on him started punching him. The cousin admitted that he struck the child and was arrested and charged with assault and battery with injury on a child.
