Proposed Arlington Medical Marijuana Facility Granted Special Permit: Report

The move came just one day before the Commonwealth voted to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

ARLINGTON, MA — The arrival of a medical marijuana facility in Arlington is closer to becoming a reality, as the Arlington Redevelopment Board granted a special permit to the facility's applicants Monday, reports the Arlington Advocate.

According to the report, the Board granted the Massachusetts Patient Foundation, Inc. (MPF) a special permit for a facility at 11 Water St. The approval came just one day before the Commonwealth of Massachusetts voted to legalize recreational use of marijuana for residents age 21 and over.

However, as the Advocate reports, the Board added conditions that prohibit non-medical sales and ordered that all storage will have to be contained in a protected vault.

Residents continued to voice concerns regarding the overall effect of having such a facility in town, but the report indicates that MPF's attorney assured those at the meeting that there would be no on-site consumption or non-medical sales.
