Residents May Have Discolored Water Thursday

Some Arlington residents may experience discolored tap water Thursday due to a section of pipeline being reactivated by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.

If the discolored water does occur, it could last up to 48 hours, according to a release from the town.

Although safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, the discolored water, which would result from a small amount of iron in the pipes, would stain light-colored laundry items. Residents should check their water clarity Thursday before washing any white or light-colored items, according to the town.

The reactivation could impact any area of the town, as the affected pipeline connects to the town's entire system. It will not affect roadways.
