Sewer Cleaning and Inspections in Arlington Now Being Conducted

The work will be conducted on various sewer line segments throughout town.

From Weston & Sampson

The Town of Arlington has initiated a program to reduce the amount of groundwater (infiltration) and

rainwater (inflow) entering the sewer system. Through this program, sources of Infiltration and Inflow (I/I) will be identified and removed. When these sources are removed, the quantity of flow entering the Arlington
sewer system and the risk of sewer backups and overflows will be reduced.

The Town’s consultants, Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. and their subconsultant, New England Pipe
Cleaning Company (NEPCCO), will be conducting sewer pipe cleaning and inspections to identify sources of
infiltration and inflow.

Crews will be performing inspections between January 11, 2017 and February 10, 2017. The work will be performed Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Each location to be cleaned and inspected may take up to two (2) hours.

Persons performing the work will be in trucks clearly marked with “NEPCCO” or “DIS” and will be wearing
bright shirts or vests. Work will be conducted primarily within the Town’s right-of-way and access to
driveways should not be affected.

The equipment required to perform the work includes a truck with a water jet to clean the pipe and a box
truck with a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera. During the cleaning process a vacuum may be created
inside the sewer pipe. Because of this vacuum some sewer service connections may have water pulled out of
the plumbing traps, causing a situation where sewer odors might enter the affected building. In the event of
an odor in your building please flush affected toilets or pour a few gallons of water in affected sinks/showers
to refill the plumbing trap.

The area included in this project includes various sewer line segments throughout the Town. Jamie Craig from Weston & Sampson may be contacted directly to answer any questions about this work.

Thank you for your cooperation with this important project.
