ARLINGTON, MA—Six Arlington schools are now producing Solar energy through Solar Panels that are now up and running.
The town announced Tuesday that solar panels at Arlington High School, Thompson Elementary School, Stratton Elementary School, The Peirce School, Ottoson Middle School and Dallin Elementary school are up and running. The town engaged in an agreement with the developer, Ameresco, to purchase the electricity at a lower rate than it pays to Eversource.
“Being able to see the solar panels at work when you first walk into these schools is a great reminder of what we can do to work toward sustainability,” said Kathleen Bodie, Arlington School Superintendent in a statement. “ and having them at the schools provides a unique and valuable learning experience.”

The town estimates that the panels will generate 850,000 kWh in the first year of operation and 16 million over the next 20 years.
“It’s exciting to see the energy production in real-time,” said Arlington Town Manager, Adam Chapdelaine in a statement. “As a designated Green Community, producing carbon free energy moves us closer to the Town’s sustainability commitments.”
