Spy Pond Closed for Swimming July 7

Spy Pond will be closed to all swimmers and water recreation users on Wednesday, July 7.

The town will be applying an herbicide  "Sonar" – the active ingredient is "Fluridone" as a booster to "control invasive and nuisance aquatic vegetation."

In addition, water from the pond cannot be used for irrigation until September 1.

According to the notice sent by the town: "When the herbicide concentration falls to a level that is safe for irrigation use to resume, the Town will notify any parties that make such a request."

This will also be printed on signs, which will be placed around the pond shoreline, prior to application.

The project is being performed for the Town of Arlington with a permit issued by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and an Order of Conditions permit from the Arlington Conservation Commission.
