The Massachusetts School Building Authority voted to approve a grant for the new 408,000-square-foot facility.
ARLINGTON, MA — The Massachusetts School Building Authority announced this week it has approved a grant of up to $83,472,654 to help fund a new Arlington High School. The MSBA and Arlington school district will next enter into a project funding agreement detailing its scope and budget, along with the grant conditions.
"Upon completion, this project will provide a new 21st century learning environment for students in Arlington," State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg said in a statement."Our goal is to create the best space to deliver the district's educational commitments and goals."
The proposed project would create a 408,590-square-foot facility with an enrollment of 1,755 students in grades 9-12 at the current high school site. The district reported in its Statement of Interest that the current structure suffers from structural and envelope deficiencies, additional plant issues and accessibility issues. The district also stated that the existing facility does not support the delivery of its educational program as well as existing and projected overcrowding.
