State Primary Tuesday: Ballots

The state primary is Tuesday, Sept. 14, and there are contested races in Arlington for state treasurer and auditor, congress and councillor.

Polls in town will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A precinct chart and map are available on the town's election website, along with a complete list of polling locations.

Residents have until Wednesday, Oct. 13, to register to vote for the November elections.

An overview of the Democratic and Republican primary ballots:

Governor

Incumbent Gov. Deval L. Patrick is unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Charles D. Baker is alone on the Republican ballot. The two will face Independent candidate Tim Cahill and Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein in the November election.

Lieutenant Governor

Incumbent Timothy P. Murray is unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Richard R. Tisei is unchallenged on the Republican ballot. The two will face Independent candidate Paul Loscocco and Green-Rainbow candidate Richard P. Purcell in the November election.

Attorney General

Incumbent Democrat Martha Coakley is unopposed in the primary. No Republicans are on the ballot.

Secretary of State

Incumbent William Francis Galvin is unopposed on the Democratic ballot, while William C. Campbell is also unopposed on the Republican ballot.

Treasurer

Democrats Steven Grossman, former Democratic National Committee chairman, and Stephen J. Murphy, a Boston City Councilor, are vying for the state treasurer nomination, which is being vacated by two-term incumbent Democrat Tim Cahill, who is running for governor as an Independent. The winner of the primary will face Republican state Rep. Karyn Polito, who is unopposed on the Republican ballot, in November.

Auditor

The state auditor race has contested primaries on both sides, with longtime incumbent Democrat Joe DeNucci deciding not to run again.

Suzanne M. Bump of Great Barrington, Guy William Glodis of Auburn and Mike Lake of Boston are on the Democratic ballot, while Mary Z. Connaughton of Framingham and Kamal Jain of Lowell are vying for the Republican nomination. Nat Fortune, a Green-Rainbow candidate, will face the nominees on the November ballot.

Representative in Congress

Gerry Dembrowski of Woburn and Thomas P. Tierney of Framingham are seeking the Republican nomination, while incumbent Democrat Edward J. Markey is unopposed on the Democratic ballot.

Councillor

Democrats Suzanne R. English-Merullo of Winchester and Terrance W. Kennedy of Lynnfield will face off in the Democratic primary, while Republican Paul A. Caruccio of Winthrop is unopposed on the Republican ballot.

Senator in General Court

Incumbent Kenneth J. Donnelly is unopposed in the Democratic primary. No Republicans are on the ballot.

Representative in General Court

Three incumbent Democratic candidates are unopposed in the primary for their respective seats, while no Republicans are on the ballot.

State Rep. Sean Garballey is seeking re-election in precincts 1, 3, 5-13, 15, 16, 18 and 19 for the 23rd Middlesex District seat; state Rep. Jay R. Kaufman is running in precincts 14, 17, 20 and 21 for the 15th Middlesex District seat; and state Rep. William N. Brownsberger is on the ballot in precincts 2 and 4 for the 24th Middlesex District seat.

District Attorney

Incumbent Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr. is unopposed in the Democratic primary, while there are no Republicans on the ballot. Leone was elected to the post in 2006.

Sheriff

Incumbent James V. DiPaola, who has served as Middlesex Sheriff for the last 14 years, is unopposed in the Democratic primary. No Republicans on the ballot.
