State Primary Voter Registration Closes Wednesday

Residents have one week left to register to vote for the state primary on September 14.

Voter registration for the primary closes Wednesday, August 25, and only takes five minutes, according to the town clerk's office. On that Wednesday, the clerk's office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate residents.

Residents can also download a registration form and send it to the clerk's office. As long as it's postmarked by August 25, it should be valid. Forms can also be picked up at the clerk's office and then sent back in.

There are two statewide races being contested in the state primary.

Democrats Steve Grossman, former Democratic National Committee chairman, and Steve Murphy, a Boston City Councilor, are vying for state treasurer, which is being vacated by two-term incumbent Democrat Tim Cahill, who is running for governor as an Independent. The winner of the primary will face Republican State Rep. Karyn Polito in November.

The state auditor race has contested primaries on both sides, with longtime incumbent Democrat Joe DeNucci deciding not to run again.

Democrats Suzanne Bump, Guy Glodis and Mike Lake are on one side, while Republicans Mary Connaughton and Kamal Jain are on the other. Nat Fortune, a Green Rainbow candidate, will also be on the November ballot.

Voter registration for the November elections closes Wednesday, October 13.

The clerk's office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
