State Rules Arlington Short of Affordable Housing Threshold: Report
Town officials are set to discuss the decision this week.

ARLINGTON, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DCHD) has ruled in favor of the developers of the proposed Mugar project, stating that the town has not proved that enough affordable housing exists in Arlington.
According to a report by the Arlington Advocate, the department ruled on Nov. 17 that the Town of Arlington has not "met its burden of proof" showing that affordable housing exists on 1.5 percent of the town's land. Both the town and the developer, Oaktree Development, disagreed on the total percentage.
The Arlington Board of Selectmen discussed the DHCD's decision at its Nov. 28 meeting, and the ZBA is set to discuss the decision at its Nov. 29 meeting.
