ARLINGTON, MA—Arlington residents flooded the polls Tuesday to make their voice heard regarding who they would like to see as their next president.
Hillary Clinton took Arlington's Democratic race, while New York Businessman Donald Trump took the Republican race. Residents from all over Arlington made their voices heard.
“I think this year is definitely a bit more important,” Arlington resident Nikki DePasquale, who was voting at the Thompson School told Patch. “For me, a lot of the candidates scare me a little bit. There’s a lot of people saying ‘if this guy wins, i’m gonna move to another country.’[She did not wish to mention which candidate she was referring to.] This is a place that continues to be a place of opportunity. Hopefully this country won’t screw that up."
According to the Town Clerk's office 59.75 percent of residents came out to vote. 14,661 residents voted on the Democratic ticket and 3,708 residents voted on the republican ticket.
"Definitely, because there's not an incumbent," Arlington resident Michael Sandler, who was voting at the Thompson School told Patch."And because we have an extremely polarized electorate. The left is moving further left, the right is moving further right. There's more of an ideological split than there has been in the past."
In total, there were 18,427 cards casts out of 30,842 registered voters.
Will Arlington up the ante in 2020? We'll have to wait and find out!
