ARLINGTON, MA — Police arrested a teenager in connection with a car break in on Hawhorne Avenue Monday, Sept. 4. In the past month, there have been three car break ins across town, according to Police data, while other communities have seen a significant spike in the crime.

Thomas Maloney, 19, of Arlington, is being charged with Ch. 266 Ss.16A: B&E Night time of a Motor vehicle.

Just after 9: 30 p.m. Monday, a Hawthorne Avenue resident called police to report seeing a white man wearing camouflage cargo shorts, and no shirt in a neighbor's car.

Three police officers responded, Officer Canniff, Sgt. Pedrini and Officer Dundutsang, they saw the car which appeared to be rummaged through and then checked the surrounding area but didn't spot anyone. They went into Robbins's farm Park through the entrance located at the end of Coolidge Ave. and saw four young men shadow boxing on top of the hill. Included in the group was Maloney, who was wearing camouflage cargo shorts and a black t-shirt.

The men told police they'd been shadow boxing in the park for a little while. Office Canniff asked Maloney if he was aware that a car on Hawthorne Ave had just been rummaged through to which he stated "Aw come on, man," according to a police report.
