"Every day when I was in  I would hit the "wall" and need to rest and gaze at the crappy day time tv shows (this was before DVR) with glazed eyes, a cup of tea and the cat sitting next to me. He would very patiently snuggle when I wasn't feeling well and absorbed tears and commiserated with me on the state of the world (if his food dish was empty). He is no longer a spring chicken at the ripe old age of 17. He is slowing down."

"I’m fairly myopic in my interests. When I travel, I focus on which restaurants to visit. I like to read cookbooks. And for weekend activities that don’t involve driving a child to some sort of sports practice, I like to have a food theme. Without summer's easy access to farms, markets, and picking opportunities, I am challenging myself to find creative foodie entertainment near Arlington in the cold months."

If  wants to remember something, :

"Yup, I use a pen and a piece of paper. I keep a pad of paper next to the refrigerator for the never-ending list of things we need at the supermarket. When the time is right, I suspend adding items and take it to the market with me, but I start all over again the minute I get home."
