Arlington Fire Chief Kevin Kelley reports that there were no injuries to firefighters, civilians, or animals at the three-alarm fire at Egerton Road on Saturday May 29th. Fire companies from Belmont, Cambridge, Lexington, Medford, Somerville, and Winchester arrived at the scene to provide support. It took about an hour to extinguish the flames and another 45 minutes to look for, and put out, any hot spots. The fire was contained to the house of origin and there were no reports of damage to the surrounding houses. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. No suspicious activity was found.

“It was the third fire in as many weeks and I want to thank the women and men of the Arlington Fire Department for their continued diligence in how they response and suppress fire,” said Kevin Kelley, Arlington’s Fire Chief. “Although there is no commonality found from this fire with two recent fires, these incidents serve as a reminder to be sure you have good working smoke detectors in your home as well as having an evacuation plan.”
Additional safety measures include having emergency phone numbers handy, practice fire drills in your home, and be sure to dispose of cigarettes properly. With grilling season upon us it is important to note that Fire Prevention Regulations prohibit the use of grills on apartment building or condominium balconies, or the use of any grill above the first floor of any dwelling including charcoal, electric, natural gas or liquid petroleum (LP) gas. It is recommended that all barbecue grills be placed on ground level at least fifteen (15) feet from any combustible, such as wooden porches, siding, decks, sliding glass doors or open windows. They should also be protected from being accidentally knocked over by children playing. Read additional fire safety tips and frequently asked questions at arlingtonma.gov/fire.
