About the OSRP Update

Arlington's Open Space Committee and Department of Planning and Community Development are updating the 2015-2022 Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP). The 2020 Annual Town Meeting approved $35,000 of Community Preservation Act funds to hire a consultant to prepare an updated Plan.  The Town hired Horsley Witten Group, Inc. to help update the plan; the planning process will continue through early 2022 and submitted to the state for approval before the current plan expires in May 2022.

The OSRP serves as Town policy for open space, natural resources, and recreation issues, in concert with the 2015 Arlington Master Plan and other Town reports and plans. The Plan lays out goals and objectives to guide relevant Town Departments, commissions, and other committees, and organizations in making decisions that affect our environment. The OSRP takes into consideration the open space and recreational needs of the community and outlines an action plan to address those needs. Having an approved OSRP also maintains the Town’s eligibility for grants from Commonwealth funding programs and provides a basis of public support for other funding opportunities.

As part of the OSRP update, the Town will conduct robust public outreach in the form of public workshops, online surveys, focus groups, talking posts, and other methods. Stay tuned for further information about and save the date for the first workshop which will be held via Zoom on June 10, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
