Town Names New Director of Planning, Community Development

The new director will begin her appointment February 16.

After a search that included a pool of 44 candidates, the Town of Arlington has named a new director of planning and community development.

Jennifer Raitt, an assistant director at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, was appointed to the position Jan. 7, according to an announcement on the town’s website. Her appointment will begin Feb. 16.

Arlington Town Manager, Adam Chapdelaine, announced the appointment.

“I am extremely impressed by the depth of Ms. Raitt’s expertise,” said Chapdelaine. “Her knowledge and understanding of planning and community development issues will be a great asset to Arlington. I am confident that she will provide the highest quality of service to Arlington and I am pleased she has accepted the appointment.”

Chapdelaine was part of the selection committee which included six other prominent figures in the town’s government and business.

Raitt has years of planning and development experience, currently working on land use planning and housing planning for MAPC. She joined the MAPC in 2007 and had worked as the Executive Director for North Shore Housing Trust prior.

“I am honored to lead the department and its talented staff,” said Raitt. “I look forward to working with stakeholders across the Town to strengthen our neighborhoods, implement the Master Plan, and continue to build a prosperous future for Arlington.”
