True Story Theater presents "Stories of Caregivers" to honor our community's caregivers this August

This August, True Story Theater, an Arlington-based Playback Theatre company celebrating 25 years this summer, presents "Stories of Caregivers," an interactive theatre performance celebrating our community's caregivers, on Sunday, August 16 at the Fellowship Hall of the Calvary Church in Arlington, MA.

Community members are invited to attend to share stories, or watch and listen – all are welcome.

This show’s exploration: What have we experienced and felt when giving significant care to others – as parents, health care professionals, adults with elderly parents or family members who need special care, or in other caretaking roles? What has been challenging? What most rewarding?

When: Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 3-4:30pm
Where: Calvary Church: Fellowship Hall, 300 Massachusetts Ave, Arlington, MA. Free street parking. Wheelchair and elevator access to the 2nd floor Fellowship Hall is through the side entrance on Linwood Street.

What happens in a True Story Theater performance? Our events bring together the delight of improvisation with the courageous vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth. The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences related to the show’s theme. After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot. During the course of a 75-minute show, True Story enacts about 6-8 stories.

From this simple interaction, audience members feel validated, laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community.
