Two Fugitives And A Drunk Driver: Arlington Arrest Logs

Arlington Police arrested three people this past weekend.

ARLINGTON, MA — Police arrested three individuals between Friday Oct. 6 and Monday, Oct. 9 in Arlington. An arrest does not imply conviction but here's what happened, according to police.

Warrant Arrest, Fugitive: On Friday October 6, 2017 an officer at the Arlington Police Department was contacted by Detective Keith Dowling of the Jefferson Parish County Sheriff's Office in Louisiana about an outstanding NCIC Arrest Warrant issued by the 24th Judicial District in Louisiana for Ernest Fontenot, 65, who lives on Mystic Street. The warrant is for two criminal charges: 1. Theft between $1,000 - $5,000 - Felony, 2.) Exploitation of the Infirmed - Felony. The NCIC Warrant was for Full Extradition with a nationwide pickup. At approximately 10:45 a.m., the officer saw Fontenot standing outside of his residence smoking a cigarette. That officer was in an unmarked cruiser but got out and placed Fontenot under arrest without incident. Officer Dunn responded to scene, and transported him to the station where he was booked and afforded all his rights by Sgt James Kiernan. Officers are coordinating with the District Attorney's Office for rendition to Louisiana.

Warrant Arrest: On Saturday, Oct. 7 around 10: 32 p.m. Officer R. Smith, saw a woman they knew to be Kristen Lucas, walking Eastbound on Mass Ave near Foster Street. Smith radioed to dispatch to check if she had a warrant out for her arrest, as he believed she did. Dispatch advised him that Lucas
had 3 Active Warrants, two out of Cambridge and one out of Boston. Lucas was taken into custody and transported to the Station. Her boyfriend, who police said had been there too was sent on his way.

Drunk Driving: On Monday, Oct. 9, just before midnight, a Pondview Road resident was sleeping when he heard a loud crash outside of his house. He woke up and came outside to see a black Ford Explorer had crashed into two parked cars, and a woman later identified as Paula August was behind the wheel, while the car was in neutral and revving the gas. The man told her to stop, called police and Officer R. Smith came out just after midnight to investigate the report of a crash, which possibly involved a drunk driver. Officer Styffe and Costa and Sgt. Paradis also responded to the scene. Police said three cars were damaged and the man who'd called police pointed out August who was standing next to the Ford. August told police she'd had two drinks and submitted to sobriety tests. Police noted her glassy eyes, slurred speech and that she dropped her cards on the ground while attempting to give officers her ID. August was placed under arrest and charged with OUI Alcohol 1st Offense and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. She was transported to the Station, where she was booked. After being explained her rights, August stated that she wanted to submit to a chemical breath test. It registered a 0.12% BAC. A Notice of Suspension for a Chemical Test Failure was placed with her belongings.
