Week in Review

August 16-22 saw a drug-ring bust, an algae bloom and a local team open play in the World Series.

The Arlington Police Department arrested the second main player, Christopher Tucceri, 38, Tuesday in a drug ring that stretched from Arlington to Las Vegas. A third man, 42-year-old fugitive John McCloskey, is still loose.

On Thursday afternoon, a 33-year-old Gardner woman died in a four-car crash on Route 2 near Spring Street in Lexington. Arlington firefighters responded to the wreck, which injured two others.

Earlier, on Wednesday, public health officials advised people and their pets to stay out of Spy Pond due to high levels of microcystis algae.

The Arlington 14-year-old Babe Ruth All Star team opened play in the 2010 World Series in Loudoun County, Virginia, on Saturday. Arlington, the New England regional champs lost 8-1 to the Midwest Plains regional champs from Minnesota.

Recent Arlington High School standout Antony Taylor placed second in his age group last Sunday at the prestigious Falmouth Road Race on Cape Cod. The 18-year-old Taylor, who will run at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst this fall, completed the scenic 7.1-mile trek from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights in 39 minutes, 54 seconds.

The defending-champion Arlington Cardinals were knocked out of the Senior Babe Ruth playoffs Tuesday, with a 7-1 loss to Everett.

On Tuesday, two-and-a-half years after the company formed in New York City, Patch launched its 100th site in Morristown, N.J.
