What's Next For Arlington's Germaine Lawrence Campus?

Youth Villages recently announced the closure of residential and educational services for its 42 female residents.

ARLINGTON, MA – The future of the Youth Villages Germaine Lawrence campus in Arlington is up in the air after it announced it would cease residential and educational services for its 42 female residents. The center provides aid to girls ages 12 to 21 with behavioral and mental health issues, according to the Arlington Advocate.

Youth Villages told the Advocate it is focusing on "expanding community-based programs" at its five other locations in the state. At a community meeting earlier this month, town officials said the current priority is relocating the 42 girls at the Arlington Heights campus.

Talks have not yet begun about what will happen to the property, but some residents are concerned about a developer changing the fabric of the community.
