Which Road in Arlington Needs a Speed Bump?
We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Arlington, MA- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.
While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Arlington. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Arlington, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:
- "Appleton Street between Park and Mass ave. Terribly high speed driving down the hill and the middle school, to which most students walk, is at the end."
- "I would say all of the cross streets between Mass Ave. and Broadway. At all hours, but especially at rush hour, it's like a speedway. With cars parked on the street and kids out riding bikes it is a hazard. Raised crosswalks would stop the nonsense."
- "Forest Street between the bike path and Mass Ave. No one seems to understand it is only a 20 mph road."
- "Mary Street. Runs parallel to Lake and people drive down at high speed thinking they can hasten their commute on Lake Street."
- " All of the side streets off Mass Ave. that intersect Broadway! Cars SPEED down these streets, as they are used as cut-thru's without considering the fact E. Arlington is very much a residential neighborhood - with many, many children at play."
- "Appleton street between Park Ave and Mass Ave, especially at the forked intersection of Appleton and Paul Revere, extremely dangerous with the speed coming down Appleton."
- "Mary Street, for sure! Our street has become unsafe because of the non-residents who use it as a means to get around Lake Street and they go far too fast."
- "Forest Street at Washington. People FLY down and the road curves."
- "Pretty much all of them. But let's start with streets adjacent to elementary schools."
- "Park Ave Ext. It is used by commercial vehicles as a cross over to Mass. Ave."
