Why Does Arlington High Have A Crashed Car?

It's in-your-face, but it's better than the alternative.

ARLINGTON, MA – You may have or will notice a wrecked red car on the front lawn of Arlington High School. Police are hoping it's a reminder to students that you do not want to end up like the crash test dummy hanging out of it.

It's prom and graduation season, as well as the national Click It Or Ticket campaign, so police, the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, and AAA partnered up for the shocking display. It may be in-your-face, but it's certainly better than not being loud enough about it.

Arlington also awarded five students with fully funded grants to attend "In Control" Crash Prevention Training. The grant recipients were given certificates and vouchers Wednesday morning.

"Both of these programs reflect our commitment to keeping teenage drivers safe every time they get behind the wheel," Arlington Police Chief Fredrick Ryan said. "This time of year though, it is especially important to remind them how big of a difference wearing a seat belt can make, and to empower them to stay safe by helping them learn practical skills to avoid crashes."
