Woburn Animal Hospital to Host 2015 Pet Festival & Spring Screening for Dogs

The Woburn Animal Hospital and Ledgebrook Kennel will hold a Pet Festival on Sunday, May 3rd as part of its Annual Spring Screening for Dogs. The event will be held from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the 373 Russell Street facility in West Woburn. This year marks the 13th time the Spring Pet Festival has been hosted by Woburn Animal Hospital owners Dr. Paul Marino, VMD, and Dr. Anne-Ghilaine Schless, VMD. The festival is open to the community and offers significant savings on important tests and services for dogs. Dog-owners receive a 25% discount on heartworm and tick disease blood tests, a 25% discount on stool screenings for internal parasites, and a 25% discount on microchip implants. The heartworm and tick disease blood test that is offered at the Pet Festival checks for vector-borne diseases, including mosquito-borne heartworm, tick-borne Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis ewingii, and anaplasma platys. The stool screening offered at the Pet Festival tests for roundworms, whipworms, hookworms, and giardia through a fecal exam. Intestinal parasites can cause dangerous infections to its host and can also infect people. Microchip implants are offered to dogs at the Pet Festival at 25% off. Microchip implants ensure lifelong identification through a tiny chip that is injected under the skin. A dog with a microchip can be identified by shelters, animal hospitals, and police stations, all of which possess microchip scanners. In addition to spring screenings and microchips for dogs, the Pet Festival will include many outdoor attractions. This year at the Pet Festival, talk to a dog trainer and behavior expert, a rescue group for Coonhounds, or wildlife rehabilitators who care for sick wild animals. Receive complimentary Polaroids of you and your pet, and visit the agility course or the interactive canine treadmill. Special attendance by professional falconers will demonstrate the skills used by birds of prey and their handlers. The family-friendly festival will also include a doggie mascot, face painting, refreshments and a feed-the-geese station. The Pet Festival is open to the public, and no appointment is necessary to take advantage of the discounted screenings for dogs.
