Workbar Opening In Arlington This Month

Workbar's new location could provide a space for Arlington's entrepreneurs.

ARLINGTON, MA - The coworking company Workbar is opening up a new location in Arlington in the former Theodore Schwamb Mill.

Workbar and Mirak Properties have partnered to restore the historic mill at 1167 Massachusetts Ave. in hopes of drawing in Arlington’s entrepreneurs. The spot is set to open this month.

Arlington business owner A.J. Dimaculangan told Wicked Local rising rent costs are forcing him out of his Arlington office and he plans to join Workbar as an alternative. There are Workbars located in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville but these can make for a long commute.

“It’s close to home and I needed to downsize. I was spending too much,” he told Wicked Local. “As the nature of business has changed, (Workbar) makes much more sense.”

The new building will use green technology and offer amenities such as showers and locker space, Wicked Local reported. There will also be unlimited coffee, fruit and other snacks.

According to Wicked Local, part-time members have the option to pay $30 per day or $125 for five days per month. Unlimited access is $300 a month, or $400 to $500 if the member wishes to use the same desk every day.

Beth Locke, executive director of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, told Wicked Local she thinks Workbar will be a great new addition to the community.

“I think this is going to be fantastic for Arlington. It’s a big need for the town,” she told Wicked Local. “Just go down to Kickstand Cafe and try to find a seat.”
