2 People Critically Injured In Cambridge Car Crash

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Two people suffered life-threatening injuries in the aftermath of a serious motor vehicle accident that took place early Monday morning, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Troopers, Cambridge firefighters, and other first responders arrived on the scene shortly before 5 a.m. to the two-car crash on the corner of Alewife Brook Parkway and Matignon Road. Trooper Leah O'Connell told Patch that one of the vehicles appeared to go off the roadway and into a tree. The two people in critical condition were the drivers of both vehicles involved, and were immediately transported to the hospital. One of the vehicles involved was a black sedan that had its entire roof dislodged. The second car was also a sedan that suffered heavy front-end damage.

The Cambridge Fire Department said that Somerville police also responded to the incident. The crash is now under investigation by the State Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene, and H Troop detectives.
