FALL RIVER, MA — A Rhode Island man was sentenced to life in prison for shooting a North Attleboro man in the belly as he stood in the threshold of his High Street apartment.

Adam Walker, 38, was convicted following a jury trial in Fall River Superior Court. Walker, an East Providence resident, was found guilty of first-degree murder, carrying a firearm and carrying a loaded firearm, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said in a media release.

Walker was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, according to the release.

Walker shot Peter Schifone, 38, once in the abdomen as he stood in the doorway of his apartment, the release said.

"Evidence established that (Schifone) had been in communication with (Walker) earlier in the day and met with him for a period of time," according to the release.

"Prior to the murder, surveillance evidence showed (Walker's) motor vehicle leave the high street residence and drive away," the release said. "Video surveillance also showed that the defendant returned to the High Street address a short time later on foot."

About nine minutes later, the video showed him running away from the residence about the same time a 911 call was made reporting Schifone had been shot, according to the release.

The murder weapon was found in a wooded area of East Providence, per the release, and data recovered from the Walker's cellphone placed him in the area where the firearm was located a few hours after the murder.

“I am pleased that the jury held the defendant accountable for this senseless premeditated murder," District Attorney Tom Quinn said in the release.

"This case went through a lengthy court process," Quinn said. I am pleased that the verdict will provide the family some consolation for the loss of their loved one."
