Attleboro Bank Robbery Suspect In Custody
Steven Cerqueira, of Stoughton, is suspected in the robbery of the Santander Bank on Park Street in Attleboro Saturday afternoon.

ATTLEBORO, MA — The suspect in a robbery at the Santander Bank on Park Street Saturday has turned himself into Stoughton police in connection with another robbery in Middleborough last week. Attleboro police said Wednesday morning that Steven Cerqueira, of Stoughton, was taken into custody on charges related to a Middleborough robbery on Nov. 9.
Attleboro police said charges are forthcoming in the Attleboro robbery.
Attleboro police sought a man matching Cerqueira's description after they said he was caught on surveillance video holding up the Santander Bank early Saturday afternoon. He fled the bank after receiving money and was last seen running away on Bank Street toward Sanford Street.

Police said they were told the man entered the bank, approached the teller and passed a note demanding money. He did not show a weapon and no one was reported injured. The Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit assisted the initial search of Attleboro police, which responded with several cars, with help from the Seekonk Police Department.
Attleboro police were withholding releasing the amount of money stolen in the Santander robbery pending the investigation.

Around 12:30 p.m. Nov. 9, Middleborough police were called to the Santander Bank at 77 Center St. for a report of a bank robbery. Police said Cerqueira came into the bank, passed a note to the teller and demanded money. Cerqueira left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police. No injuries were reported.
