Attleboro MCAS Scores Better Than State in English and Math

Attleboro Public Schools, overall, scored slightly higher in English and Math than students in the rest of the state, according to MCAS numbers released this week by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

According to the data, which can be found on Boston.com, 71 percent of Attleboro students scored proficient or higher in English compared to 69 percent of the state. In Math, 67 percent of Attleboro students scored proficient or higher compared to 61 percent of the state.

Attleboro was slightly behind, however, in science and technology, with 51 percent of students scoring proficient or higher compared to 53 percent of the state.

In all three categories, fewer Attleboro students were graded as "Failing or Warning" than the rest of the state.

Attleboro Superintendent Kenneth Sheehan told Patch that the data was in the process of being analyzed and a presentation would be made at the school committee meeting on Oct. 7.
