Make a difference to a child impacted by homelessness with School on Wheels of Massachusetts
School on Wheels of Massachusetts seeks volunteer tutors for children impacted by homelessness in Brockton, New Bedford and other towns.

Can you spare a few hours a week to influence the life of a child impacted by homelessness?
School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) is seeking one-on-one afterschool tutor/mentors to work with children in grades K-12 at shelters, hotels, and schools in Brockton, New Bedford, Norwell, Randolph, Stoughton, and Weymouth starting in January 2015. Nearly 1,800 Massachusetts students have benefitted from SOWMA’s customized academic services in the 10 years since the organization’s founding. Thirty-five SOWMA students are currently enrolled in college.
Each SOWMA tutor is matched with a student for one or two hours a week. Tutors work with students on homework and school projects. Tutoring sessions are designed to fill the layers of learning that may be missing due to frequent moves and school absences. Each SOWMA tutor is expected to serve as a mentor and positive role model. Teens and adults aged 18 and older are needed. No prior experience is required.
