Man Wrecks Photographer's Camera After Pictures Taken of Home

A Bloomfield Street resident allegedly broke a man's camera by throwing it to the ground after he became enraged that the photographer was snapping pictures of his home.

According to a police report written by Patrol Officer Edward Dyer IV, the scuffle ensued on Monday, Jan. 31, after John Barishian approached Hugens Cely, who was taking pictures of the 122 Bloomfield St. property. Holding his 16-month-old son, Barishian allegedly confronted Cely in the road after a neighbor advised him a photographer was taking the pictures.

The photographer told the man he was there for business; he is employed by MMC Contracting Services in Fall River and was checking the property for an occupancy inspection that was requested by a mortgage company. Barishian then asked Cely to show him the pictures and he complied. 

And then the tussle ensued. According to the report, Barishian said the photographer pushed him. Cely denied this claim and said the Bloomfied Street resident took his camera and threw it onto the ground and broke it. The memory card came out, and it was never located. 

Officer Dyer then called MMC Contracting and spoke with an employee who said the occupancy inspections were routine and Barishian signed a contract in 2006 agreeing to the inspection when signing off on his mortgage. 

Officer Dyer then told the Bloomfield resident that he would have to pay for the camera or else go to court and face charges for malicious destruction of property.
