Obituary: Antonio C. Rebelo

Mr. Antonio C. Rebelo was an active member Holy Ghost Parish in Attleboro.

Antonio C. Rebelo, 61, of Thacher Street, Attleboro, a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed peacefully on June 8, 2013, surrounded by his family at home. He was the beloved husband of Maria C. (Rodrigues) Rebelo, with whom he celebrated 38 years of marriage.

Born in St. Michael, Azores, on December 10, 1951, he was a son of the late Antonio and Constance (Viveiros) Rebelo. Mr. Rebelo came to the United States on December 8, 1967. He worked for 40 years as a truck driver and shipping clerk at Wolverine Corporation, formerly Englehard Corporation, before retiring due to illness.

Antonio was a longtime communicant and active member of the former Holy Ghost Parish in Attleboro and along with his wife Maria, participated in many of the parish festivals and feast celebrations. Antonio enjoyed traveling and following New England sports teams and Portuguese soccer clubs. He has been an avid Boston Bruins fan since the days of Bobby Orr. A family orientated man, he was proud of his accomplishments and of his home, where he enjoyed many family parties and gatherings and usually was the "life of the party", always trying to make others laugh. One of his greatest joys was playing and joking with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Vavo silly".

In addition to his wife Maria, Antonio is survived by two sons; Michael Rebelo and his wife Jennifer of Attleboro, Richard Rebelo and his wife Katie of Rehoboth, a daughter; Kristina Magnan and her husband Brian of Attleboro; a brother; Jose and his wife Alda Rebelo of Attleboro, a sister; Maria Correia of Attleboro, seven grandchildren; Kevin and Allison Rebelo, Ryan, Jacob, and Emily Rebelo, Kaylee and Anthony Magnan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gabriel Rebelo.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, June 12, from 5-8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Thursday, June 13, at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Vincent de Paul Church, 71 Linden St., Attleboro, celebrated by Rev. Richard Wilson, pastor. Antonio will be laid to rest in St. Stephen's Cemetery, South Main Street, Attleboro.
