AG Finds County Commissioners Violated Open Meeting Law

"Attorney General Finds that the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners Violated the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law"

In an official determination issued on March 16th (see attached documents), the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Division of Open Government has ruled that the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners violated the Open Meeting Law.

The review and investigation resulted from a formal complaint filed last Fall by long-time Open Meeting Law Advocate, and current Republican Candidate for County Commissioner, Ron Beaty.

Beaty stated, “I am happy to see that my ongoing pursuit of open, transparent and accountable government is yielding positive results.”

Beaty further stated, “The public’s right to know regarding all levels governmental operations is of paramount importance, including our Cape Cod Regional Government known as Barnstable County. Moreover, I hope to serve as a role model to others to bring this same kind of dogged pursuit of governmental transparency and accountability to federal, state, and local government as well.”
