BARNSTABLE, MA — A jury has found a man guilty for the 2015 rape of an 18-year-old girl from Truro, prosecutors said Friday.
Richard Reynolds, 52, of Barnstable, was convicted Thursday after a six-day jury trial in Barnstable Superior Court.
In August 2015, Reynolds was working as a contractor for the victim’s mother and became friendly with the girl, who considered him an “uncle figure,” according to a statement from Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois.
But Reynolds raped her inside her mother’s home, Galibois said. The victim did not disclose the attack until February 2023.
Police from Barnstable, Truro and Wellfleet investigated the case.
Reynolds’ bail was revoked following the unanimous verdict. He is now being held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Buzzards Bay until his sentencing on June 4.
A conviction of rape in Massachusetts can result in a prison term of up to 20 years.
