Cape Cod 5 Charitable Foundation Earns National Honors for Gifts to the CCCC and Community

The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank and its Charitable Foundation Trust have gained national distinction by being honored with the Council for Resource Development (CRD) Benefactor Award for 2011.

The CRD Benefactor Award is the only national recognition of donors to the nation’s community colleges. Each year, CRD recognizes the outstanding contributions of ten donors from across the country that have made a difference to their community colleges. The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank and its Charitable Foundation Trust were nominated by Cape Cod Community College for their long-standing commitment to both the institution and to the greater community.

Cape Cod Five President and CEO Dorothy A. Savarese, and Vice President for Community Relations David Willard, traveled to Washington, DC with College President Kathleen Schatzberg to receive the award in ceremonies Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. 

President Kathleen Schatzberg praised the Bank and its Foundation for the outstanding support of the College, and for their community-based mission, including their focus on financial education throughout the communities they serve. The President also noted the Bank’s and Foundation’s recent gifts including the support for major renovations to the Nickerson Archives and its historic collection of Cape Cod antiquities; its past support for the institution’s capital campaign that resulted in the construction of the state’s first LEED certified building constructed with state dollars; and the long-standing support of the Multicultural Festival of Cape Cod, hosted by the College for over a decade. 

Cape Cod Five’s President and CEO Dorothy Savarese noted the Bank’s and Foundation’s pride in supporting the College’s programs and services, “We recognize and value the importance of the resources that the College provides to improving the quality of educational opportunities for the population of Cape Cod and the Islands, and it has been our privilege to be able to provide support to the College for so many years.”

CRD President for 2011 Kim Sturgeon made the presentation, emphasizing that the CRD Benefactor Award recognizes individuals, foundations, or businesses/corporations for outstanding contributions to community colleges. “The CRD Benefactor Award embodies the ideals of philanthropy, leadership, and volunteerism in the service of community, technical, and junior colleges,” she noted.
