The Town of Barnstable Growth Management Department invites all to attend a public meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at 9:30 am in the Town Hall Hearing Room.

Meri Jenkins, Program Manager for the Massachusetts Cultural Council will be on hand to discuss the state’s cultural district designation program as well as address why supporting the arts, humanities and sciences are worth their investment.

By a 2010 act of the Massachusetts state legislature, cities and towns can now apply to designate qualifying areas as cultural districts.
Any city or town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is eligible to apply for this designation.

The Town of Barnstable, along with application partners (Hyannis Main Street BID,Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cape Cod Art Association) is currently working on an application for the HyArts district in downtown Hyannis to become a state designated cultural district.
The existing concentration of cultural, economic, and historic resources in downtown Hyannis, along with a strong community commitment to further enhance the vitality of the area, makes it an excellent candidate for designation.
