Entertainers, Community Leaders Pitching In For NOAH Shelter

“American Idol” contestant Siobhan Magnus, Santa Claus, and U.S. Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown are among those supporting the eighth annual NOAH Telethon, a fundraiser for the only emergency shelter for homeless individuals on Cape Cod and the Islands.

The telethon will be shown Capewide on community-access cable stations from 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 14 and will be streamed live atwww.capemedia.org.

Mindy Todd, host of “The Point” on NPR station WCAI, will return as program co-host, along with Rick Brigham of the NOAH Center. Joining them as celebrity guest hosts will be Joan Bassett, HAC board president; Wendy Northcross, CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce; State Rep. Tim Madden; Paul Pronovost, editor of the Cape Cod Times; Sean Corcoran of WCAI; Anne VanVleeck of Cape Cod Young Professionals; Philip Mangano, former head of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness; Matt Pitta of WXTK; and Santa Claus. 

Joining more than 100 volunteers to answer the phones will be “Bachelorette” star Chris Lambton, State Rep. Tim Madden, State Rep. Cleon Turner, Cape Cod Community College president Kathleen Schatzberg, and Barnstable County Commissioners Bill Doherty, Mary Pat Flynn and Sheila Lyons.

The show will include taped messages of support from U.S. Sen. Scott Borwn, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, Mass. Senate President Therese Murray, State Sen. Dan Wolf and State Rep. Sarah Peake.

Suzanne Tonaire, a DJ on WGTX (Dunes 102), lined up local musicians to provide entertainment during the telethon. Sara Leketa will perform live during the show. Siobhan Magnus will appear to introduce a video for her new single, “Black Doll.” Also sharing pre-recorded videos are Chandler Travis, Emerson Drive, Lisa Jason, and the Solstice Singers.

Members of the Youth Street Reach program danced to the song “Go Make a Difference” for a video that will appear during the telethon. The group includes students from First Church of Christ in Sandwich, Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich, the Dennis Union Church, the Federated Church of Hyannis, St. Francis Xavier Prep School, the Barnstable High School National Honor Society and the Eddy Elementary School in Brewster.

This year the telethon will be held at the new home of the Cape Cod Community Media Center at 17 Shad Hole Road, Dennisport.
