Photography Playing with Light Featured at Town Hall

Sarah Colvin Nelson  featured artist on display through April 6.

The “Art on Loan” program, highlighting local artists on the meeting room walls in BarnstableTown Hall features the works of Sarah Colvin Nelson, March 1st through April 6th,  2012.

Sarah has always been intrigued with light.  “From the newness of first light to the magic end of the day glow, it’s always changing, always moving, always enhancing our lives, and of course it is essential to the art of photography.”

Sarah’s passion developed as a young child. “I always had a camera in my  hand. I remember walking around the house with my Kodak Disc snapping pictures of my siblings, and even my toys. I began experimenting with 35 mm as a teenager, spending hours in my high school darkroom waiting for images to appear.”

Even with today’s technology and the ability to manipulate and change images, Sarah remains a “purist” and “aside from perhaps a color-correction tweak or removal of dust or a dark spot” her photos are unedited.  As she says, “ what you see is what you get.”

Working in digital Sarah strives for capturing images from another  perspective.  “ I look for the angle you don’t see every day, the aspect of the landscape, building, or person that you may not see right away, even if capturing that image means crouching down in the weeds or stepping in a little mud.  Cape Cod provides an endless supply of new photographic journeys, from the architecture, streets and people to the oceans, woods, and trails. I try to capture how I see these places.”
