Barnstable Ends Free Recycling At Transfer Station

According to officials, the transfer station is operating at a loss because of the free service.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Town officials announced the Department of Public Works will stop offering free recycling to residents that do not purchase a transfer station sticker. The announcement is effective July 1.

Town officials sent a letter out to residents notifying them of the change. According to officials, the transfer station is operating at a loss because of the free service. The Department of Public Works has had to use cash reserves to subsidize the cost of recycling.

Residents can purchase an annual transfer station sticker for $250. The stick is active from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.
