Barnstable Firefighters Rescue Man After Kayak Capsizes
Barnstable fire officials stressed the importance of wearing a life jacket when boating following the incident.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable firefighters rescued a man Saturday after his kayak capsized a half-mile from shore.
Fire officials received the distress signal around 1:15 a.m. and found the kayaker off the coast of the Scudder's Lane town landing.
Fire officials said on-shore firefighters and Barnstable police officers located the man, while three firefighters on Marine 219 and a Barnstable Harbormaster vessel rescued the kayaker. Fire officials said the kayaker was wearing a life jacket.

Emergency officials evaluated the man at Barnstable Harbor, but he declined an ambulance ride to the hospital, fire officials said.
