Barnstable Power Outage Update: 4,000+ In The Dark
Thousands who lost power in Barnstable might not see it restored until the weekend. Hyannis was walloped with wind gusts of 64 mph.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Emergency crews are slowly restoring power to Barnstable, but thousands of customers remain in the dark. According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, 4,060 Eversource customers are still without power as of 10:30 a.m. Friday.
At the peak of Wednesday's storm, outages exceeded 12,000. Thousands have had their power restored since, but some may have to wait until the weekend. Eversource said communities on the South Shore and Cape Cod will have power back by 8 p.m. Saturday.
Barnstable was one of the hardest areas hit by the storm in the entire state. Wind gusts reached as high as 64 mph in Hyannis and 61 mph in Marstons Mills. Barnstable also got flooded with rain. Parts of town got 1.15 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The cleanup work will take a massive effort for the emergency crews dealing with broken power line poles and uprooted trees. The storm took down trees throughout town, including one that blocked Route 6A in Barnstable Village. Another tree took out a fence at a home on Cherry St.
