Barnstable Public Schools Select New Superintendent
The new superintendent will replace, Meg Mayo-Brown, who is taking a job at a charter school in New Bedford.
BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable school officials have selected Sara Ahern as the district's next superintendent.
The decision was made by the school committee during a special committee meeting Wednesday.
Ahern is the superintendent for Franklin Public Schools. She received her doctorate in educational administration from Boston College and her master's in medical school from the University of Massachusetts.

"I see Franklin as being a district closer to ours looking at the student numbers, the facilities as well as the school budget," Said School Committee Vice Chair Sara Ahern. "Based on the leadership style, the collaborativeness, the where with all to come to quick decisions when needed to pause decisions on others, I found that Sara Ahern would be my first choice for a superintendent in Barnstable."
Ahern was one of four finalists for the position and was chosen over Monomy Regional Superintendent Scott Carpenter, Brockton Chief Academic Officer June Saba-Maguire and Mill River Unified Union Superintendent David Younce.

She will replace Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown, who is resigning on June 30 to take a job as the executive director for Innovators Charter School in New Bedford.
