Beached Shark Saved on Cape Cod

Beach goers in Provincetown formed a bucket bridge to pour water on the shark before it was towed out to sea.

A group of bystanders saved a beached blue shark in Provincetown Tuesday.

They formed a bucket bridge to pour water on the shark as a crew prepared to tow it out to sea, according to the Center for Coastal Studies.

The shark was released in deeper water where it stands a chance of surviving. The shark regurgitated its stomach—a common stress reaction in sharks, according to researchers. The shark may be able to swallow it back down.

The Provincetown Harbormaster towed the shark back out to sea.

“Many, many thanks to the members of the public who worked to keep the shark as comfortable as possible while it was on the beach,” the center said in a statement.
