Cape Cod Fire Burns 100+ Acres
A massive fire on Cape Cod burned over 100 acres; firefighters used Blackhawk helicopters to douse the blaze.
SANDWICH, MA — A massive brush fire that broke out on Cape Cod Saturday has burned 100 acres and counting.
The fire broke out at Joint Base Cape Cod; the cause has not yet been identified. The fire was under control Monday but hotspots remained amid a spell of dry weather.
The base houses the Air National Guard—and two Blackhawk helicopters equipped with water buckets were used to fight the blaze. A State Police helicopter assisted. The helicopters are equipped with "Bambi Buckets" that can hold up to 600 gallons of water.

Making firefighting operations worse was the fact a round of thunderstorms over the weekend narrowly skipped over the Cape region.
Great Job from our friends in the air. They really helped keep the fire under control from the air. pic.twitter.com/iwjEkj5qR9
